Choosing the Right Walker

Consultation: Always consult with your physiotherapist to select the right type of walker that suits your specific needs.

Fit and Comfort: Ensure the walker is the correct height. Your elbows should be slightly bent when you hold the hand grips.

Daily Use Tips

Proper Grip: Hold the walker with both hands and ensure a firm grip. The top of the walker grip should line up with the crease on the inside of your wrist.

Walking: Move the walker a step ahead of you, then step into it, starting with your weaker leg followed by your stronger leg.

Posture: Maintain an upright posture while using the walker. Avoid leaning too far forward or backward.

Turning: To turn, take small steps while moving the walker in the direction you want to go.

Safety Measures

Environment: Ensure your walking path is clear of obstacles, and avoid slippery or uneven surfaces.

Brakes (for walkers with wheels): Make sure to engage the brakes when you are standing still or sitting down to prevent the walker from moving.

Footwear: Wear non-slip shoes to provide better grip and stability.

Maintenance

Regular Check-ups: Regularly inspect your walker for any signs of wear and tear. Ensure that the rubber tips, wheels, and other parts are in good working condition.

Cleaning: Keep your walker clean by wiping it down regularly. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning.

Exercise and Mobility

  1. Exercises: Engage in regular exercises as advised by your physiotherapist to maintain strength and mobility.

  2. Mobility Aids: Consider using additional mobility aids like cushions or grips to enhance your comfort and independence.
